ABOUT ME

My design approach is simple: Solve the problem, communicate clearly, and make it beautiful.

During my time at Chicago magazine, I learned the fundamentals of editorial and print design. As I moved on to learn web design at Merge, I used those fundamentals—grid systems, typography, negative space—and applied them to the web page. Whether a reader or a user, a website or a brochure, the goals are the same—communicate information in a clear and meaningful way.

During my 20 years of experience I’ve honed a few main specialties: digital creative direction, product design and brand/identity design.

As websites have become the main face for brands, style guidelines have evolved into design systems. Type hierarchy, cards, modules, forms. The original print brand guidelines have nothing on design systems. When a design system is well thought out and implemented it’s magic.
