Middleouest, the brain child of myself and Cassie Walker Burke, is an online magazine about the Midwest and all its many wonders.
Together we sourced stories about people and places in the Midwest that typically aren’t covered. In its heyday, I handled the art, design and layout of the magazine. Cassie was the editor. On Middleouest.com, we covered stories about urbanites that left Chicago to start a farm in Michigan, the closing of a gem of a 70’s era recording studio in River North in Chicago, and the wild and complicated emotions of a Chicago woman struggling with postpartum depression and anxiety, to name a few.
Cassie and I worked on this project on top of our full-time jobs. Though we’d love to keep it going, life has gotten in the way and we haven’t created much new content in a while. But regardless, Middleouest was a place where we could tell the stories we wanted to tell. You never know, it could come alive again some day.
